MP backs biodiesel tax break project

Liberal Democrat MP Andrew George is backing a project to keep tax breaks for business who .

Producers converting cooking oil into biodiesel currently gain from a 20p differential however that is because of end next April.

The St Ives MP, who leads the Lib Dem Environment Team, has been meeting the UK sustainable biodiesel alliance.

Mr George said “a variety of small companies in Cornwall presently earn money from used cooking oil”.

He added: “In order to be able to get this kind of market going it does need simply a little bit of lift which comes in the form of tax inevitable.”

Biodiesel is a mix of traditional diesel, rapeseed and vegetable oils.
